Open Training: Physical Acting
Join master teacher Kate Kohler Amory and director Jeremy Williams for a unique training opportunity! This 5-hour intensive workshop develops specific and applicable skills for sourcing the body in the creation of authentic text based acting by bringing together the work of Jerzy Growtowski, Stephen Wangh, and their own approach to creating compelling performance through physical embodiment.
The goal of this workshop is to move developmentally from individual improvisational work into a scene from Strindberg’s “Miss Julie”. Kate will lead the group through exercises that allow actors to follow impulse, cultivate rich imagery, and expand emotional range within the context of character and story.
Participants will:
- review the basic forms of the Cat and Plastique
- explore relationship imagery and partner exploratory exercises
- create a physical score, working from improvisation to repeatable moments
- apply the score to scene work with a partner
- edit, refine, and intensify the scene with coaching from Kate Kohler Amory and direction from Jeremy Williams
Workshop open to:
- professional actors
- emerging artists/recent graduates
- directors/choreographers/teacher
- current graduate students
