Consulting Services

  • Are you a self-producing artist or company?
  • Have a production in the works or a new program in development?
  • Working on increasing your audience and presence?

If so, you’re in the right spot!  Here you will find practical solutions that fit your specific needs; providing support for your work and taking it to the next level of success.

Jeremy Williams provides consulting services for individual artists and arts organizations of all sizes from emerging to established companies.  Each service is customized for your specific needs and budget because having outside support for your work is essential for you to successfully reach your goals.

What is consulting and how can it help you?

To consult is to have a conversation.  This conversation is led by an expert who’s on the outside of your artistic process and organization to help articulate your strengths and concerns to formulate an action plan that will support your work.   We know how useful an outside eye can be in our artistic process and the same is true for every other process that relates to our art business.  I say “business” as a verb; art-making is the thing that we do but there are a lot of surrounding processes that support the art itself which also need attention.  No matter if you are an individual artist or an organization with a support staff, an outside eye on your projects can help shape your process and facilitate conversations that lead to a clear plan for success.

My approach to consulting is centered around Audience Engagement.  This has been a big buzz phrase in our field in the past few years, but what is it?  Audience Engagement is how we relate to, and engage with, our audiences all of the time from performing to programming to promoting and every step in-between.  I will lead  you to put Audience Engagement into action through planning, evaluating, and executing a plan that maximizes your potential to meet your goals as an artist and business.

Check out this 1-minute video on Audience Engagement. And here’s a couple of testimonials from artists I’ve been in conversation with.

Services Offered

I’m happy to have a conversation about any aspect of your work, but here are the top 5 conversations I’ve been engaged with recently.  There’s a quick form below where you can start the conversation or ask a question.  Our first conversation is on the house and you will not be under any financial obligation until we have agreed on all of the details.

Every project, no matter the size, takes a certain amount of planning to be successful. Without a plan, which includes flexibility and contingencies, your vision may not become fully realized. Producing is a combination of strategic planning and resource evlauation that encompasess and drives the entire process of a project – from allocating responsibilities across your full team, to setting metrics for success, to mitigating risk. I offer a wide range of producing services that include:

  • one-time consultation on your existing plan
  • creating a full producing plan that includes production and fundraising planning, budget development, metrics for success, resource evaluation
  • serving as “producer” on your project and providing management and leadership for your production

New work development

You have a great idea for a new theatrical production (play, musical, dance, performance art, night life, etc) but need some help translating this from your mind to the stage. Creative problem solving through a theatrical lens is my forte! I have experience leading the development process of over 50 original works to various levels of production including staged readings, workshop presentations, and full productions. There are a wide range of possibilities that could include:

  • one-time conversation about your project or a particular aspect of your project
  • rehearsal or studio visits to offer feedback
  • on-going support for the development of your project through meetings & conversations
  • director and/or choreographer for your new work

Audience Development & Cultivation

Performance is never complete without an audience. No matter where you are in the world you have access to different audience members, but how can you connect with them? Audience Development looks to local and long distance audiences for your project, company, or brand and provides a strategy for your to expand your audiences with individuals and partnerships that are well-matched to your work and mission.

Audience Cultivation works with your existing audience-base to deepen their interest and loyalty by opening up your creative process and letting your audience into the magic of what you do. This results in increased earned and contributed income as well as a deeply connected, engaged audience for your work!

The role of the facilitator is to make a conversation enjoyable, easy, and productive. I facilitate many different kinds of conversations within creative communities which include conversations between artists and audience members, artists and arts administrators, students and professional artists, as well as organizational leadership including executive, artistic, advisory, and boards. I have experience facilitating large groups of several hundred participants to intimate groups of two or three individuals and everything inbetween. Here are a few types of conversations I frequently facilitate:

  • pre & post-performance conversations
  • feedback & evaluation sessions
  • creative brainstorming
  • learning communities
  • strategic and vision planning

Program Development

Designing and implementing a new program involves choreographing a lot of moving parts. I’ve had the pleasure of developing many different kinds of programs for youth through seniors within a wide range of settings including schools, colleges, arts organizations, and community centers. Creating a new program involves many steps from defining the program, organizing resources needed, creating a budget and preparing the financial needs, establishing a program evaluation, creating documentation of the workings of the program so it can be repeated, and testing the program in a case-study or pilot. Programs take careful planning and administration to be successful and sustainable.
